Healing Bieler’s Broth

Bieler's Broth

I was first introduced to this healing food by my mentor. Thanks to her, I now make this delicious healing Bieler’s broth often. It is super easy and quick to make. And the good thing is you can make it in larger batches and keep in the freezer.

A little background info: Henry Bieler was an American physician (he wrote Food is Your Best Medicine) and is celebrated as a pioneer in alternative medicine. He used food and diet-based therapies to manage various diseases in his patients, such as asthma, diabetes and cancer.

He developed this broth to help his patient’s heal. Bieler’s broth is incredibly easy on the digestive system and quite nourishing. The broth will alkalinize the body with its rich green ingredients. The broth also supports the liver. This super organ is the key filtering machine in our body, and is often overworked. So any food that can help heal and replenish it is much welcome!

Adding grass fed, organic butter to the broth will give it added benefits. Grass fed butter is rich in healthy fast, needed to maintain brain health. Some of the benefits of grass-fed, organic butter are:

  • CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) helps reduce belly fat
  • Vitamin A very important antioxidant, helps keep thyroid, adrenals healthy
  • Vitamin K2 helps with bone health
  • Packed with beneficial minerals such as selenium, magnesium, zinc and copper

Bieler’s Broth As a Fast?

People will sometimes do a 2 to 5 day fast while only eating Bieler’s broth. If you’re interested, try eating the broth for 1 day only, and see how you feel. Always drink water throughout the day. If you do well for one day, maybe extend to another. Listen to your body!

Ingredients:

2 cups of green string beans
3 zucchini
4 stalks of celery
1 cup parsley
1 tbsp of organic grass-fed butter or Ghee
1 garlic clove
filtered water

Method:

Wash all ingredients well. Heat 2 cups of water in a large pot. Trim the green beans and place in the water and cook for about 5 minutes. Then add in celery and zucchini and let cook/steam for another 7 minutes.

Add all (water and veggies) into a blender and blend until it turns to liquid. Add the tablespoon of butter, parsley and 1 garlic clove. Blend again until all well mixed.

Drink 1-3 servings a day to keep ultra healthy. It is also quite good when served cold – perfect soup in the summer.

Why:

Zucchini

Filled with copper, manganese and vitamin C, zucchini is the perfect versatile food. It has high antioxidant properties needed to protect our cells from free radicals. These antioxidants are particularly helpful for protection of the eye! To get the full antiox properties, make sure to not peel the skin.

Green Beans

Filled with vitamins K and C, as well as manganese (good for the joints) and the ever important fiber. Green beans also have antioxidants in the form of vitamin C and beta-carotene. Studies show that they are particularly important for cardiovascular health because of their antioxidant properties.

Celery

Just like green beans, celery shines in vitamin K – needed for bone health and proper blood clotting . Recent research has shown that celery is a great anti-inflammatory food (thanks to its unique polysaccharides), protecting the digestive tract especially.
