Let’s talk arm pits. I like to use all natural stuff in order to lessen the toxic load on my body. Especially when it comes to putting something so close to my arm pits (and my myriad of lymph nodes). I believe that our body has been built perfectly to detox itself – so when we clog our detox pathways – such as lungs, digestive system and skin – with toxins and gunk, it can cause problems.
If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.
Cosmetics frequently contain enhancers that allow ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. Yikes! Studies have found health problems in people exposed to common fragrance and sunscreen ingredients, including increased risk of sperm damage, feminization of the male reproductive system and low birth weight in girls (EWG 2015). To avoid going down the highway of toxins, why not lessen the load by choosing natural cosmetic products?
I was using a 99% natural deodorant, but after about 5 years of using it, I began to develop a rash to it. Like…my arm pits were itchy. It’s not a good look when you are walking down the street, scratching your arm pits.
The deodorant I was using contains an ingredients that could have caused the problem for me: potassium sorbate. Potassium sorbate is used as a preservative in cosmetics and has been linked to allergies and immunotoxicity (according to EWG).
The first thing I did was to help detox my arm pits. I used bentonite clay mixed with a tiny bit of water to create a paste. Bentonite clay will leach toxins from the arm pits (the skin in general) so it’s quite effective at helping keep those babies clean. Once you have your paste, place it on your arm pits and keep it there for about 20min. Wash off after 20 min. I did this 3 days in a row. Guys, after doing this I didn’t even have to wear deodorant at all. And this was in August in hot, humid, sticky Toronto.
The second thing I did was research deodorants. After days of reading reviews, ingredients etc. I landed on Purely Great deodorant. I requested an unscented sample (ultra careful) to see the effectiveness of it and if it would irritate me. It didn’t. It was perfect. It worked. I fell in love. Best part – it’s a Canadian product.
Because it’s a paste deodorant, you have to apply with your hand. I actually quite like this – it gives me better control of how much I am actually putting on. The second thing you have to do with it is stir before each use. This is fine, I just use a chop stick to stir!
I also find that I don’t need to apply everyday! I am sure this is a combo of my arm pit detox and the effectiveness of Purely Great.
Try the detox – you’ll love it! And if your current deodorant isn’t doing it for you, try Purely Great.
